Crystal Jade Kitchen, Pavilion

Two weeks back I was invited to media luncheon at Crystal Jade Kitchen Pavilion by Arcis Communications. We were greated by Stella To, Special Assistant to Managing Director of Crystal Jade Culinary Concepts Holding at the doorstep. Then, we were brought to the VIP room to join the others for lunch.

Hungry, my stomach growls. Stella shared a brief history about Crystal Jade and their various concepts while waiting the food to arrive. Interestingly, Crystal Jade has up to 16 different concepts overall in Asia Pacific Region. In Malaysia, there are six different Crystal Jade concepts currently located in Kuala Lumpur. Amazing, aren’t they? I would definitely want to try all SIXTEEN concepts from Crystal Jade someday.

Sliced Fish with Century Egg and Parsley Congee RM9.80

The sliced fish was the essence of the entire congee. The sweetness from the fish brought a mild tenderness to the aroma of the congee. The congee was boiled so well that the texture of the congee was incrediblely thick unlike the usual watery congee or rice-like congee. I love thick congee..

Wanton Noodles Soup RM9.80

Wanton Noodles Soup RM9.80

Shrimp Dumpling Dried Noodles

Shrimp Dumpling Dried Noodles RM10.80

Then came the two types of noodles, dry or soup. My preference has always been the dried noodles but in Crystal Jade Kitchen, both has rather very unique taste. I could taste dried shrimp used as broth for the Wanton Noodles Soup and the Shrimp Dumpling in dried noodles was utmost one of the best shrimp dumpling I ever had.

Roasted Peking Duck RM98.00

Roasted Peking Duck Skin with Crackers

Roasted Peking Duck in Spring Rolls

Next dish: Peking Duck. World gourmet. They served the Peking Duck in two different dishes, first, the roasted skin, and later, the stewed duck fillet. I’m not a big fan of duck, or I could say I don’t eat duck if given a choice but the golden yellow crispy roasted duck skin was irresistable. I had one, then two, then three and four pieces of crispy duck skin. Inside the spring roll, the yellow crispy duck skin is placed between a cube of crunchy cucumber, shallot with crepe, the taste was marvelous. I had three spring rolls. I must say, Peking Duck is the best.

Stewed Duck Fillet with Bittergourd

Stewed Duck Fillet with Bittergourd

I think Crystal Jade literally stalked me because they served all my favourite dishes. Bittergourd. Orgasm. The duck fillet is stewed with special sauce which I can’t descibe how salivating it was. For only RM98.00, you could get a bird of Roasted Peking Duck and two best dishes by the restaurant. I would say it’s pretty affordable in such high class restaurant.

Stewed Chicken in Claypot RM18.00

Stewed Chicken in Claypot RM18.00

I’m in love with anything which comes in claypot style. I love the old school cooking style. The sauce and tender smooth chicken was impecably awesome.

Sauteed Beancurd with Minced Meat and Chilli Sauce RM14.80

Sauteed Beancurd with Minced Meat and Chilli Sauce RM14.80

Beancurd is very famous dish among the Chinese especially. My mum used to say, eat more beancurd and you will have smooth flawless skin. Nevertheless, beancurd isn’t my liking still I had a spoon of the tasty looking dish. All I could say, those who enjoys spicy dish would definitely want to opt for this. Very spicy indeed.

Fried Rice with Crab Meat, Conpoy and Egg White RM20.80

Fried Rice with Crab Meat, Conpoy and Egg White RM20.80

And the menu ends with another famous chinese dish. Fried rice. Something simple and taste great. Crab meat and egg white. Healthy.

  1. Crystal Jade definitely has its formula right when it comes to chinese cuisine. It is a name synonymous with good food and good service!

How shall I put this without it sounding wrong, or negative?…
If you want a ’safe’ dining experience you’ll never go wrong with any of Crystal Jade’s establishments. :)

(safe as in no unpleasant surprises – you know, occasions such as some important business lunch/dinner, taking your in-laws out to dinner for the first time, impressing the girl of your dream on your first dinner out etc)

if it’s something out of the ordinary you’re looking for, then of course Crystal Jade shouldn’t be on your list. Don’t get me wrong!.. it’s nothing bland or unexciting – it’s just predictable for an establishment that carries the Crystal Jade’s name. Predictable because we expect nothing but the best from Crystal Jade.

And predictable is good for a lot of people, especially when they don’t want anything to go wrong.

  2. wkhai, sounds entirely wrong. predictable?? nothing ordinary???

I was in love with their crispy roasted duck.

I think they are rather simple and traditional chinese restaurant with great delicacy and quality food.
